Become a Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer

This is the place where your experience and energy are needed and appreciated. The Tri-City Hospital Volunteer Program was voted the #1 place to volunteer in North County by the North County Times Annual People’s Choice Poll.

Our Volunteers contribute so much to Tri-City Medical Center. We have a dynamic team of about 400 active volunteers, ranging in age from 15 to 90, who generously share their time and expertise in over 40 areas at the Medical Center and off-campus locations. They enrich our hospital experience by providing valuable support services for our patients, families, visitors and staff and assisting the Medical Center in its mission of promoting the health and well-being of the community.

Senior Volunteer Requirements

  • Men, women, college, and high school students 18 years of age and older.
  • Attend an orientation
  • Submit information for a background check (provided by hospital)
  • No court ordered community service
  • Yearly TB test is required and is provided by hospital. (new applicants will have two TB tests)
  • Yearly seasonal flu shot is required and is provided by hospital.
  • Dues of $15 per year
  • Purchase of uniform ($15-$20)
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of Tri-City Medical Center and Auxiliary
  • Volunteer at least 100 hours per year

Orientations for Senior Volunteers

Orientations for new senior volunteers are held at the hospital on the second Wednesday of every month, from 9:00-11:00 am. At the orientation, volunteers receive training in hospital procedures and are asked to select their top three choices for work assignment. After the orientation, volunteers will be contacted by department chairmen for interviews and work assignments.

Junior Volunteers

“We welcome you to get involved with Tri City Hospital by volunteering your services to patients and families through the Junior Volunteer program. It is an opportunity to do worthwhile work that makes a difference in other’s lives, explore possible health care career opportunities, and experience work responsibility. The departments in the hospital where the JVs work include: Emergency Room, Escort Service, Information Desk, Imaging, Laboratory, Maternal Child Care, Surgery, Women’s Diagnostic Center, and Gift Shop.”

JUNIOR VOLUNTEER APPLICATIONS - OPEN AUG. 25, 2017
Applications will be open on August 25, 2017 (no sooner). Apply below on the online form or in person at the auxillary office at Tri-City Hospital. Next orientation is October 25, 2017. Applications will be closed when orientation is full.

Junior Volunteer Requirements

  • Age 15 – 18 (must be no older than 17 to start)
  • Enrolled in school ( grades 9 through 11 to start )
  • Attend an orientation
  • One time dues of $10
  • TB test (provided by hospital)
  • Flu shot during flu season (provided by hospital)
  • Purchase of uniform ($20)
  • Volunteer a minimum of 6 hours per month
  • No court ordered community service

Orientations for Junior Volunteers

Orientations for junior volunteers are held periodically throughout the year and applicants must attend with a parent or legal guardian. At the orientation, junior volunteers receive training in hospital procedures, volunteer requirements, and are introduced to areas of JV work assignments. After requirements are completed, students are assigned to a specific department where junior volunteers will work directly with senior volunteers and hospital staff.

Orientations for JVs are held twice a year about mid-April and in again November. Class size is limited and applications are only accepted during an open period prior to the orientation.
